- What is the Crisis Facility and what services do you provide?
Non-hospital medical detox – approximate 3 day stay for people needing low level medical care to withdraw safely from alcohol and other drugs. Referrals for longer-term treatment can be made after finishing detox.
Facility Based Crisis – approximate 6 day stay for short-term stabilization of mental health symptoms. It is not a psychiatric hospital unit, so the facility is unable to meet the needs of people that require long periods of time to stabilize, need 1-to-1 staffing, or are aggressive/assaultive.
The Crisis Facility is a locked and is equipped to handle voluntary and involuntary referrals. Individuals who are admitted voluntarily will not be held against their will and may leave when they choose.
Consumers have access to telephones and there are established visiting hours.
- Where are you located?
It is located at 1309 S. Cannon Blvd. in Kannapolis behind DSS, Health Department, BiLo.
- Do you provide transportation?
When there are no alternative means of transport, transportation may be provided from hospital emergency departments in Cabarrus, Davidson, Stanly, Rowan, and Union Counties or from Daymark sites in these counties.
- What is the cost? If I am admitted to the Crisis Facility, will my insurance cover my stay?
Generally insurance companies do not cover this type of service. Medicaid will cover the costs of services, and a sliding scale fee schedule will be used to determine the costs to people without insurance.
If someone has insurance through an employer needs contact the insurance company to find a covered provider.
- How can someone be considered for admission?
Call PBH access number 1-800-939-5911 persons answering the phone screen and make suggestions as to the appropriate level of care indicated.
- Who will be involved in my care?
The Unit is staffed with counselors, social workers, RNs, and LPNs.
Assessments are completed by professional staff who make recommendation as to the appropriate level of care.
Individuals may be referred to:
- Urgent outpatient appointment
- Hospitalization at local acute care
- Hospitalization at state hospita
- Admission onto unit
Everyone admitted will be seen by a doctor within 24 hours.
A PBH care coordinator will be stationed at the site to assist with referrals and coordination of care.
- When would a person go to an inpatient hospital unit instead of the crisis facility?
Individual needing medical care that cannot be address on an outpatient basis.
- Individuals actively assaultive or aggressive
- Suicidal ideation so severe the someone needs 1:1 staffing to assure safety
- Individuals that require more than 6 days to stabilize suicidal ideation, hallucinations, or delusions
- Individuals needing staff assistance to bathe, eat, change clothes and other activities of daily living
