Dan is originally from upstate New York where he graduated from the University of Scranton with a B.S. in Psychology. He attended graduate school at Syracuse University and achieved a Master’s in Social Work.
Before coming to North Carolina in 2000, Dan was the New York State Development Coordinator for ValueOptions. Prior to that he was the Administrative Director of Integrated Behavioral Health at United Health Services Hospitals in Binghamton. Dan has extensive experience in public mental health, serving as Commissioner of Mental Health in both Broome and Tioga counties. He began his career as a case worker for children. In addition to his work experience, Dan was also an active leader on behalf of people with disabilities, serving as chairperson of the NY State Conference of Local Mental Hygiene Directors, on the NY-Penn Health Systems Agency Community Task Force on Substance Abuse and on the Board of Directors of the New York State Commissioner of Mental Health.
Dan has been Area Director at Piedmont since July 2000. He is on the Board of the North Carolina Council of Community Programs; Chair of NC Council’s Advocacy Action Work Group, the committee responsible for developing the Council’s political advocacy strategies; a Board Member of Cabarrus Community Care Plan, a primary case management program; as well as serving on the North Carolina Division of MH/DD/SA Services Recovery advisory Council, and representing the North Carolina MH/DD/SA Area Programs on the Public Policy Work Group.
