Pop-Up Windows and Pop-Up Blockers: What You Need to Know
 
What is the purpose of Pop-Up windows when you are on the Internet? 
If you have visited web sites and had them pop-up all over your screen with advertisements and instant winnings, your answer to this question may be that they are tools for advertisers, and highly annoying to Internet users. And you are right. Advertising is one purpose for pop-up windows on the Internet.

Pop-up windows can also perform many other useful tasks that you may not have thought of. For example, an application may use a pop-up window to allow you to make choices that will affect the main ("parent") window. It also may allow you to run an application in a window without moving away from the page you are on.
  A Pop-Up Window may be used to pull up another application within your Main Window, without losing the contents of the Main Window. In this example, the pop-up window offers details about the window below.
 
What are Popup Blockers and Where Do they Come From? Pop-up blockers are software applications that "block" pop-up windows from appearing on your screen. They have become very popular to help users escape the barrage of advertising pop-ups on their computers. Pop-up blocking software came into being when Internet browsers (like Internet Explorer and Netscape) introduced the pop-up functionality.

Many times software that you install adds a pop-up blocker to your system without your knowledge. This may cause problems for some web-based applications that you use which depend on the ability to pop-up these windows.

Can I Choose to See a Pop-Up with a Blocker Installed? You usually can override the pop-up blocker by pressing the <CTRL> key when you click on the button or image to open the pop-up window. This is a relatively simple way to allow the blocker to keep the annoying pop-ups out and see the ones that you want to see. 

If you click on a button on a PBHC page and nothing happens, try holding down the <ctrl> key and then click again. If it works, you probably have a popup-blocker installed.

Another method of controlling the pop-up blocking application is to go into the application settings and disable it for certain sites (if it has this feature). You will need to reference the documentation for the blocker that you have installed to configure it to do this.
